Subject: Invitation to Participate in the GRA Capacity Building Webinar Series

Dear Baitsi & Bridget,

The Secretariat of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) will be hosting a three-part capacity building webinar series to provide advice, technical assistance and training to existing and new member countries. We would like to extend an invitation to you to participate in the webinars. The webinars are open to anyone intending to engage with the GRA and/or interested in being part of important science networks on agricultural GHG emissions. See https://globalresearchalliance.org/updates/ for more information.

The webinar series titled "Progressing Partnerships" will feature topical experts currently working with various science networks and provide an opportunity to learn about on-going research activities for reducing agricultural GHG emissions in each of the GRA's four Research Groups (Croplands (CRG), Paddy Rice (PRRG), Livestock (LRG) and Integrative (IRG)). Expert facilitators will share their personal experiences in working with different stakeholders from both developed and developing countries, answer questions, and highlight further opportunities for research collaboration provided by the GRA and other related science networks. The webinar series will also create opportunities for valuable knowledge sharing and peer learning by drawing on good practice examples of relevant GRA programmes in different countries and regions.

The first webinar will highlight the importance of international collaborations in addressing the challenges of agricultural emissions reductions in the context of food security, poverty reduction and sustainable development, in particular the role of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA). This webinar will showcase examples from developed and developing countries and provide information necessary to support member countries to identify opportunities for research collaboration to implement and advance the agricultural GHG research and development agenda. Ghana and Canada, both GRA member countries, will share their experiences and the value they place in participation in international research collaboration. FONTAGRO, a GRA Partner, FONTAGRO it experience participating in international collaborations, and how this has enhanced the implementation of agricultural GHG emissions research in Latin America and Caribbean.
Date: Wednesday, 5th August 2020 (09.00am UTC / 11:00am Johannesburg time). Register here https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6415952126422/WN_XM6Bo_nLSNqAP…

The second webinar will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the operations and future directions of the four GRA Research Groups and associated science networks of the GRA. The webinar will highlight the activities and Flagship Projects undertaken by each Group to reduce agricultural GHG emissions. Furthermore, the webinar will highlight the benefits of active engagement in the research groups, the opportunities provided through their networks and how member countries can effectively participate.
Date: Wednesday, 19 August 2020 (09.00am UTC / 11:00am Johannesburg time). Register here https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/4815953810755/WN_JUJpm_FcS7ihv…

The third webinar will showcase examples from Kenya demonstrating how the development of a Tier 2 GHG inventory can help enhance understanding and forecasting of agricultural GHG emissions as well as improvements in livestock productivity within the context of sustainable development and efforts to eradicate poverty. This webinar will also feature a recent publication Livestock Activity Data Guidance (L-ADG), published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) to improve understanding on the steps involved in compiling Tier 2 livestock GHG inventories.
Date: Wednesday 16th September 2020 (09.00am UTC / 11:00am Johannesburg time).
