Subject: Invitation: SDG 6 Relay Marathon

Dear all,

Through Tafadzwa, I have been roped into an initiative by the IHE Delft outlined below and in the attachments. Please RSVP and send to your networks! Link to RSVP: https://forms.gle/esu6meY6UdzfVctG8

As you will be aware, in March 2023 there will be a unique occasion, for the first time in more than 40 years the General Assembly of the United Nations will debate the challenges of the freshwater crisis and its solutions. In 2020 the Secretary General António Guterres announced his concern with the delays with which the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are being achieved. He called on the World to accelerate in particular the water SDG (SDG6), as water cross-cuts and is key to almost all other SDGs. Five accelerators were proposed: Finance, Data and information, Capacity development, Innovation and Governance.

We are organizing a virtual/hybrid event involving a large partnership of academic institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and the private sector as part of the NY Water Week and UN Water 2023 to debate the research and innovations that are needed to improve the five pillars of the SDG 6 acceleration framework. What research is needed to accelerate for example the financing of the water sector, or governance, capacity development?

The South African event will take place on 21 March from 10AM-12PM. We form part of a global event marathon relay, where a virtual baton will be passed on to meeting participants distributed over the different time zones. We will start in New York City and end approximately 24 hours later back in New York. On the way a debate will be passed on and ideas and commitments will be picked up on.

Please feel free to contact me for any questions.

Regards,
Nora
