Dear Readers,

Good day. The Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI) has been an authoritative resource on tracking investment in agricultural research and development as highlighted in the articles cited below. Nienke Beintema has been synonymous with the ASTI initiative and readily worked with various actors across the R&D space. We thank her for her valuable contribution.

Regards,

Dear colleagues, partners, and friends of ASTI

This week is my last as ASTI's program head. In the past two decades I have been very fortunate to work closely with ASTI's talented and committed team; its expanding group of national focal points; and its numerous other national, regional, and international partners. With your contributions and the support of IFPRI, PIM, the Gates Foundation, and many other donors, ASTI has matured from its origins as a small data collection effort to the extensive program it has become today.

Since this year is also ASTI's 20th anniversary, we are marking this important milestone with a Series of Notes<https://asti.cgiar.org/20years> focusing on—and updating—some of the key advancements and insights ASTI data have enabled in the past 20 years:

ASTI in Retrospect 01. The Role of Women in Agricultural Research<https://asti.cgiar.org/sites/default/files/pdf/asti20/ASTIat20-Gender.p…;

ASTI in Retrospect 02. The Prevalence of Volatility in Funding Trends<https://asti.cgiar.org/sites/default/files/pdf/asti20/ASTIat20-Volatili…;

ASTI in Retrospect 03. High Shares of Senior Researchers Aged Over 50<https://asti.cgiar.org/sites/default/files/pdf/asti20/ASTIat20-Age.pdf&…;

ASTI in Retrospect 04. Underinvestment in Agricultural Research<https://asti.cgiar.org/sites/default/files/pdf/asti20/ASTIat20-Underinv…;

ASTI in Retrospect 05. The Allocation Research Resources<https://asti.cgiar.org/sites/default/files/pdf/asti20/ASTIat20-Focus.pd…;

I would like to thank you all for the contributions and support you have given the ASTI program over the past two decades. My time with ASTI has been very fulfilling, in large part thanks to my interactions and collaborations with all of you.

With very best wishes,

Nienke Beintema
